Verne Francis Mockler passed away at 90 years young after a brief illness on Saturday May 13th, 2017 at the Pavilion at Shell Point Retirement Community in Fort Myers Florida.
He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 12th, 1927, the son of Kathryn and Verne Mockler Sr. Verne was a resident of Shell Point in Fort Myers for the past 7 years. Verne Francis Mockler passed away at 90 years young after a brief illness on Saturday May 13th, 2017 at the Pavilion at Shell Point Retirement Community in Fort Myers Florida.
He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 12th, 1927, the son of Kathryn and Verne Mockler Sr. Verne was a resident of Shell Point in Fort Myers for the past 7 years. While there he was active on the Butterfly Garden Committee and was recognized for his fund raising efforts. Some of his happiest days were spent with his faithful dog Bentley. Prior to that he lived in Boca Raton, Florida, Surf City, New Jersey, and Huntington Valley, Pennsylvania.
After a successful business career in mortgage and title insurance as the founder and owner of Brokers Title Insurance Company in Philadelphia, he retired to Florida. He was a communicant of St. Columbkille Church in Fort Myers, where he previously served as an usher. His passion centered around the ocean, and he enjoyed boating, fishing and days at the beach. He also enjoyed travel and spending time with his family.
He is survived by 2 children, Robert Mockler and his wife Sandy and Kathy Mockler and her husband Richard Harris; along with 3 grandchildren Shannon, Ben and Linsday Harris. He is also survived by his brother James Mockler and his wife Geraldine, also of Fort Myers, as well as his sister Cecilia Kelly of Dover, Delaware. He is also survived by nieces Terrie, Loretta, Annemarie, Linda, Kelli, Sheila and Cissy and nephews John, Michael, Donald and Matthew. He was preceded in death by his wife Marie Harbin-Mockler, and his brother Donald.
A memorial mass to celebrate his life will be held on June 22nd at St Columbkille Church at 10:30 a.m. located at 12171 Iona Rd in Fort Myers, Florida.
