Thomas Joseph Finneran, 84, of Fort Myers passed away March 31, 2015. He was born on July 13, 1930 in Roscommon, Ireland to the late Michael and Elizabeth Finneran. Upon entering the U.S. as a young man, Tom obtained a position with SAIT, Inc. NY becoming the head of the technical department. He attended RCA Institute and subsequently Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, NY. Tom graduated with a BS degree in electrical engineering. Thomas Joseph Finneran, 84, of Fort Myers passed away March 31, 2015. He was born on July 13, 1930 in Roscommon, Ireland to the late Michael and Elizabeth Finneran. Upon entering the U.S. as a young man, Tom obtained a position with SAIT, Inc. NY becoming the head of the technical department. He attended RCA Institute and subsequently Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, NY. Tom graduated with a BS degree in electrical engineering. He began his professional career with ITT as Service Coordinator, then V.P. of Service Operations, Worldwide. At retirement he was Executive Vice President of ITT Mackay Marine Division.
Tom was a member of IMO, SNAME, IEEE, V.O.W.A. He was President of the CIRM based in London, Chairman of the Mobile Communications U.S. Customer Industry advisory group. Tom served on the INMARSAT users association Board of Directors and Chairman of the RTCM. He was also an avid golfer at Kelly Greens Country Club.
Tom is survived by his wife, Merian; children, Kevin, Brian and Carole; step children, Mark Lands and Lisa Haggman; grandchildren, Peter and Tommy Flyckt; 8 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews in Ireland. He was preceded in death by a step son, Leonard Lands and siblings, Vincent, Michael, Patrick, Ciaran and Midie Brennan.
Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at 11 AM at Saint Columbkille Catholic Church, 12173 Iona Rd, Fort Myers, FL. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alvin A. Dubin Alzheimer's Resource Center, 12468 Brantley Commons Ct., Fort Myers, FL 33907.
